DR RYAN COPELAND
REGIONAL MEDICAL DIRECTOR, ASSISTANCE – Europe, Middle East & Africa

Key Areas of Responsibility: Medical assistance, remote healthcare support, telehealth, quality assurance and governance, travel risk management.

Dr Ryan Copeland is responsible for the delivery of medical assistance services across EMEA. Ryan oversees a platform of doctors and nurses who provide medical support to International SOS clients, the coordination of medical transportations and support of Remote Health Care sites across the region.  

Ryan undertook his medical training in South Africa with a specific focus on emergency medicine and trauma, working in both the public and private healthcare sectors. Ryan then moved over to the UK in 2003 where he continued with his emergency medicine training in London. Ryan joined International SOS in November 2007 as a Coordinating Doctor and gained extensive experience with international medical case management and medical transportation. Ryan was then promoted to Medical Director of the London Assistance Centre in 2010, and then to Regional Medical Director Northern Europe in 2012. During this period Ryan was pivotal in supporting the medical supervision of remote healthcare support, telemedicine implementation, hospital audit and network management, along with crisis management.

In his current role Ryan has responsibility for the medical assistance related services provided by the London, Paris, Geneva, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Moscow and Dubai Assistance Centres. The main responsibilities include client health partnership, medical provider network strategy, medical professional career development and training, quality and governance, aeromedical transportation, telehealth and digital transformation.
